There has been a lot of talk lately about ”Self-Love.” I’m excited about this, as learning how to truly love myself has changed my life. So much so that I created a business that teaches people to do just that.
Self-love is not bubble baths, massages, or spa treatments. Learning to love yourself takes courage, commitment, and devotion.
Once you have achieved self-love, the side effects are greater self-respect, self-trust, self-worth and freedom. Relationships and life are MUCH more fun and rewarding, too!
Below are a few of my thoughts on what self-love means to me.
Self-love is…
Taking care of yourself before taking care of others. Making yourself a priority. Only then can you give from an abundant heart without keeping score or needing anything in return.
Knowing when and how to ask for and receive support.
Forgiving yourself, learning from and moving forward when you make the wrong choice.
Lifting others as you climb and celebrating everyone’s success. Co-creating and working together for the greater good of all.
Having strong boundaries and knowing when to say “No”.
Being willing to feel and (responsibly) release constricting emotions (such as anger) so you can expand and open your heart to more compassion and love.
Making regular time to feel into the people, experiences and things you are grateful for.
Learning how to listen to and trust your intuition, then act upon its guidance, even if it’s against the “status quo” and you aren’t sure where it is taking you.
Knowing how and when to be there for yourself in all the ways you have wanted other people (and things) to be there for you.
Not allowing or needing others to make you feel a certain way.
Making choices that honor your values so you can live in integrity to your highest and best self.
Self-love is not playing the “blame game” but taking 100% responsibility for your relationships, your happiness, and your success in life.
Self-love is having the courage to compassionately look within to see what beliefs, fears, stories, behaviors, and habits are keeping you stuck in your life so you can recognize them, acknowledge their impact on you, forgive them, and move beyond them. This is key to creating a life filled with freedom, flow, inner peace, abundance, joy, and love.
Self-love is Empowering. Self-love creates Freedom. Self-love takes Courage. Self-love feels great!
It is my passion and purpose to help others learn to be there for themselves in all these beautiful ways I have shared above…and more.
My dream for this amazing planet over the next 10 years and beyond is to move away from a world of domination, fear, separation, “power over”, and manipulation and expand into a world of “unity consciousness”, connection, co-creation, compassion and love. This is my greatest work in the world.
This work MUST begin with ourselves individually. Only then can it ripple out to others.
How are you navigating the uncertainty and chaos in the world today?
As always, I invite you to leave a comment and share with me.
Also, a couple of weeks ago, I created a 1:24-minute video on self-love for social media. Here’s the link if you’d like to see it: What does self love mean to you?
